Emmanuel Emenike has announced that he is no longer available to
play for Nigeria.
The 28-year-old made it known he was quitting the Super Eagles
on his Instagram page.
He wrote: “For everybody that thinks I am the problem of Super
Eagles, I am using this opportunity to give you a breaking and interesting news
that I am no longer a Super Eagles player. It has always being my pleasure to
play and win for the team.
“I am always proud of my successful years in the team and I am
pleased to call it off at this point in order to avoid insults.”
The striker, who is currently on loan at Al Ain in Dubai, made
this decision after it emerged Sunday Oliseh was considering dropping him from
next month’s World Cup qualifier against Swaziland.
Emenike made his debut five years ago for Nigeria and was top
scorer at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, which the Eagles won.
However, he has gone two years without scoring for the national
team and Oliseh is beginning to lose confidence in him.
A top source close to the team told AfricanFootball: “Oliseh is
disappointed Emenike has not justified the confidence he has in him.
“He has been given his chance by the coach, who is now seriously
considering Odion Ighalo to lead his attack against Swaziland next month.”
The striker scored 16 goals in his 35 appearances while on
international duty.
